I previously mentioned the Forge Clear Ice system bringing counter top clear ice production and ice sphere creation into the kitchen. Here's an updated article that is showcasing the ice sphere creation portion of the system. It appears to use electricity to melt the ice into a sphere, vs the more common metal press method that is pervasive today.
Go check out the article at GearBrain:
The device comes from FirstBuild, a community of makers that's backed by GE Appliances, so you know there's some solid tinkering behind the product. Companies that have come out of the incubator include Paragon, an induction cooker, and Opal, a flake ice maker. (Sense a theme?)
So there you go! $1500 for a full clear ice and ball press system for your kitchen. Seems a bit steep. Is it worth it? I'll keep watching for videos. We still haven't seen the clear ice producing portion of the system.
